Notification of the new objectives given by High Priest

Nichinyo Shonin in order to advance kosen-rufu

  1. To increase the membership of all Hokkeko chapters by 50 percent by the year 2015, when we will be celebrating the auspicious occasion of the 770th anniversary of the birth of Second High Priest Nikko Shonin.
  1. To achieve a membership of 800,000 Hokkeko believers by the year 2021, when we will be celebrating the auspicious occasion of the 800th anniversary of the advent of the Founder Nichiren Daishonin.

On the occasion of the General Meeting of the Great Assembly of 75,000 Believers in Celebration of the 750th Anniversary of Revealing the Truth and Upholding Justice through the Submission of the Rissho ankoku-ron held on July 26th, High Priest Nichinyo Shonin honorably presented us with these two new objectives. In his guidance, the High Priest reviewed the progress of the Hokkeko, from the General Tozan of 30,000 Hokkeko Believers in 1990 up to the present date, and proclaimed the great accomplishment of the objective presented by Honorable Retired High Priest Nikken Shonin to conduct the Great Assembly.

Furthermore, he stated:

12 years from now we, Nichiren Shoshu, will enter the year 2021, the 800th anniversary of the advent of our Founder Nichiren Daishonin. At midterm, six years from now, we will enter the year 2015, the 770th anniversary of the birth of Second High Priest Nikko Shonin.

First, by 2015, the year of the 770th anniversary of Nikko Shonin’s birth, all Hokkeko chapters must aim to increase their membership by 50 percent, in order to repay our debt of gratitude to the three treasures. Having accomplished this, we must further progress in our shakubuku practice until 2021, the year of the 800th anniversary of the advent of our Founder Nichiren Daishonin. I would like to ask you to achieve a membership of 800,000 Hokkeko Believers in conjunction with the 800th Anniversary, in order to contribute toward the kosen-rufu of the great Law.

Thus, for the advancement of kosen-rufu, the High Priest presented these new objectives, which all priests and believers of Nichiren Shoshu should devote themselves to achieve.

We would like to ask all of you, priests and believers of Nichiren Shoshu, to uphold these new objectives presented by the High Priest. Let us exert ourselves in the three categories of action: thoughts, words, and deeds, to accomplish a 50 percent increase in the Hokkeko membership by 2015, the year of the 770th anniversary of the birth of Nikko Shonin, and a membership of 800,000 Hokkeko Believers by 2021, the year of the 800th anniversary of the advent of the Founder Nichiren Daishonin. Let us celebrate this most auspicious occasion based on making a vow, as the most devoted Hokkeko believers, to promote the advancement of kosen-rufu. Let us increase our shakubuku activity in order to save all living beings.
